FEED WARNING. FROZEN/THAWED NOT LIVE. My Suriname red tail boa constrictor eating her large rat. I choose to use Frozen thawed because rats, especially if that size, can do a ton of damage to the snake if they bite so it's much safer. She is now getting a large rat every 4 weeks. That may seem like a long time but Boas have a very slow metabolism and are commonly overfed and sadly often die young due to this. I choose prey that is no bigger than the thickest part of her body and prey that leaves only a small bump at the most. My veterinarian, specializes in reptiles, especially snakes, and owns over 20 boas. All feeding schedules and sizes are run by him first. If I notice my snakes are gaining too much weight, or are on the thin side, adjustments are made. Because I feed in the enclosure and do not want to risk her swallowing substrate, I flio one of her hides upside down for feeding. She then moves to the warm hide to digest and I thoroughly clean that one before putting it back.
